India - military stamp - India Force in Congo for the United Nations – 1962

From August 1960 till June 1964, India provided a large quota (battalion of infantry, detachment air, military hospital, and logistic company, section of military police force, and company of transmissions, personnel of administration) to the Operation of the United Nations in Congo (ONUC).

The Indian forces had their own postal system: 6 military postal offices (F.P.O. - Field Post Office) were implemented in order to serve this quota. On January 15, 1962, these offices were equipped with overprinted Indian postage stamps.
