Centenary of the first post stamp, 1986

 

To commemorative this event, a special stamp was issued.

The stamp was presented at the exhibition “Cenzapost”, held in the Central Post office of Kinshasa from 22 till 25 January 1986. The same exhibition was later held in the post office of Brussels in la Monnaie from 17-23rd March under the name “Congo-Zaïre”.

It contained 6 stamps, no 1306-1311 + block 64

Note that it was issued in February 1986 and was for sale in Zaire after the exhibition “Cenzapost”, held in the Central Post office of Kinshasa from 22 till 25 January 1986.

Almost the same folder was made for the exhibition in Brussels, and this was sold during the exhibition held in the post office of Brussels in la Monnaie from 17-23rd March under the name “Congo-Zaïre”

Translation:

On the 1e January 1886, the King Léopold II has issued the first 4 stamps of the “Etat Indépendant du Congo” and opened the first three post offices in Banana, Boma and Vivi.

Brussels, 17 March 1986.

 

In the right inside two stamps are shown, Belgian no 2199 and Zaire no 1306.

Each with a special cancel, 17 March 1986 & 22 February 1986.

 

Two envelopes were issued.

The red envelope bears a value of 13francs, and the blue one of 24francs.

Circulation: 50,000 of each one.
